Tempo is a vibe coding tool to create React Apps and this was #1 requested feature

Teams use Tempo to create React Apps.
but they had
no way to create and manage newer features within Tempo.

Great for exploration but a challenge for retention

Retention survey results
Retention analysis detail

Like most AI tools, problem was that users loved exploring Tempo for their first build. But users did not stick around for furthur product development or relied on other apps Jira to manage their process. This added more friction points for the teams. A simple but effective layer of management with an AI co-pilot was needed for user to create and track their new builds.

10 apps and 10 Founders

In our research, we analyzed and audited 10 AI apps that are in space of vibe coding, app creations to draw insights in common AI patterns. We interviewed and tested with 5 technical and 5 non-technical founders to understand their product managment experience and take feedback as part of our concept testing.

Research taught us that

Research insights from founder interviews

Post our concept testing, founders shared their feedback. One of the key but contradictory findings from users was they wished for experience that is not limited to the chat window but also wanted established patterns of interaction with (eg. Chat). Quick wins included the ticket generation from the PRD document flow, which was well recieved by the users and was a key direction for us going forward.

01

Prompt to PRD

Prompt to PRD flow

Prompt to PRD was the first step towards aligning and inviting the user to collaborate with AI. No more tedious PRD writing delighted users. AI created the PRD and the text editor allowed users full control for furthur editing and tweaking. This engaged users, reducing alienation and dropoff by 90%

02

PRD to Sprint board

PRD to Sprint board flow

PRD tp Sprint board was the second step towards empowering the user with product management within Tempo. Users delighted in how AI would extract the requirements and create tickets and organize them in simple board view. This was #1 requested feature by Tempo users and key in retention.

03

Sprint board to Ticket

Sprint board to ticket flow

Adding depth to the Ticket function. We gave the users the ability to add priorities, status, due date and assign collaborators. This was important from the Founders perspective. Many founders mentioned their teams being remote and the fast pace of work created blockers and miscommunication. The spirnt board and tickets would help align teams and make its easily managable to the founders. Additionally, Sub-tasks could be added manually as well as with the help of AI.

#3 on Product Hunt!

The PRD generation feature was successfully handed off to engineering and is now live. Our AI Copilot gained major traction. Founder and the team found value with our research, ideation and hand-off.

Things that went right

This was a very fast-paced project with rapid development.

1. Product roadmap was golden. With a fast-paced project, the roadmap document served as the anchor to track changes, divide work, and meet goals on time.

2. Collaboration begets clarity. Involving engineers early avoided technical thrash, saved time, and improved decision quality.

For future

Given more time, we would test this prototype through additional user interviews to qualitatively evaluate PM workflows for planning and development handoff.
